Good Growth Predicted for 2007

Christmas brings good news for the local racing industry building on the very successful year the industry has had.

In Queensland the increased interest in racing has lead to several exciting developments. The Turf club's chairman Bill Millican has confirmed a proposal for Brisbane race clubs Eagle Farm and Doomben to merge to form a super race club. (Gold Coast Bulletin, November 06).

Locally on the Gold Coast the Turf Club has had a very good year, and Magic Millions goes from strength to strength. This success is forcing the industry to look for other options as it is being squeezed by current facilities. Plans are being developed to expand the Bundall facility to increase capacity from seating 16,000 people to more than 30,000 over the next five years with a projected $30 million to be spent on new grandstands, a revamped marquee area, the re - alignment of the main track and a new all - weather track.

Magic Millions sales have steadily increased, as well as international recognition as a major event. This growth in sales and reputation has lead to a proposal being investigated for a winter sales program, tied to racing carnival similar to the January format. If funding permits a move to a venue of international standard on the Gold Coast could eventuate.

In Victoria, confirmation has just been recently received that Melbourne has staged its most successful spring carnival. Attendance over the 50 days of spring carnival was up more than 40,000 over last year, reaching 770,442. This included breaking the 400,000 attendance for the first time at the Flemington four - day carnival. Off-course turnover increased $22 million and on-course turnover increased $4.2 million.

The increase in attendance and turnover all augers well for the industry as a whole and as facilities improve such as has happened at Flemington new benchmarks will continue to be set.

General Interest

Animal health care company Vet Biotechnology has launched technology which involves collection of stem cells from the afterbirth of newborn thoroughbred foals. The company was granted the exclusive Australian licence for the service in 2004, and the process, currently available in the UK and Europe, is being undertaken in conjunction with a group of select Australian thoroughbred studs.

Adult stem cells are the body's natural repair mechanism for damaged or diseased tissues, and have the ability to restore bone, muscle and cartilage by generating a range of specialized cell types. This holds the exciting promise of being able to return injured equine tendons or ligaments to full functionality.

However, these cells occur naturally in very low numbers. This new service has the potential to enable provision of therapeutic doses for treatment.

A major boost to the Thoroughbred Racing industry!

Christmas Poem

My Christmas wish for you, my friend
Is not a simple one
For I wish you hope and joy and peace
Days filled with warmth and sun

I wish you love and friendship too
Throughout the coming year
Lots of laughter and happiness
To fill your world with cheer

May you count your blessings, one by one
And when totalled by the lot
May you find all you've been given
To be more than what you sought

May your journeys be short, your burdens light
May your spirit never grow old
May all your clouds have silver linings
And your rainbows pots of gold

I wish this all and so much more
May all your dreams come true
May you have a Merry Christmas friend
And a happy New Year, too .

Do something different this Christmas!

You can become part of this wonderful story Masami Sato and David Anttony, co-founders of Bouncing Olive, shares with you.

On your Christmas shopping list this year, you can add one more item to send a gift to someone you do not yet know, someone who would be really touched by your contribution, acknowledgement and love.

Bouncing Olive, with your direct contribution, will send an Australian street living person an awesomely healthy hearty Christmas meal in great partnership with an amazing Sydney organisation, JEF (Just Enough Faith - secular charity) who has been supporting over 500 hundred people each day for the last 14 years.

Christmas is a great time to give thanks to each other as well as to yourself by being even more giving and generous to others.

And remember that life is magic and you are a part of it!

Profile

Name: Chris Leslie

Age:    22

No. of Years with IGL:  5 Months

Intro

My name is Chris Leslie and I'm 22 years old.  I have lived on the beautiful Gold Coast for the last 15 years and before that I grew up in Melbourne.

I'm a big fan of Rugby League, the Cricket and the V8 Supercar Series.  While I was studying IT I worked for 2 Film and Television Production companies keeping their Office IT systems running smoothly.

I enjoy working with computers, I really enjoy my weekends and having a good time with my friends.

I am also known at the office as "B2" because I am good friends with Bradley who is one of the Programmers, also known as "B1".

Bradley (B1) organised an interview for some work experience here at Intervest and they must have liked my work because I got to stay.

Role at Intervest

My role at Intervest is Technical Support Officer, so if anyone is having a problem with TriLogics, I'm the person to speak to.  I also look after the computer systems in the office.

What has IGL meant for you?

IGL has given me the chance to prove myself and my skills.  IGL has also helped me come out of my shell so to speak and given me a great introduction into the real IT industry (being that I am only 22).

I also have a much better understanding of Horse Racing and am looking forward to one day being able to trade with TriLogics myself, even if it is only part time.

Advice for IGL Users

Keep and eye on the Members Section of our website.  Any important Updates or News about TriLogics will always be posted there.

You can also find out what the current version of TriLogics is by looking in the "Downloads" section.

The Daily Profit Reports are now located in the Members Section, for those that are having trouble finding them.

What can you see or expect for the future of IGL

I would like to see TriLogics have a choice for the data collection source and a wider list of TAB's to choose from.

Where do I see myself in 5 years time

I would like to be more involved in computer networking as my career progresses.  I enjoy the problem solving that comes with managing and maintaining a computer network.

I would also like to see myself with my very own mortgage.  I would like to say that I will own my house in the future but unless I win the lotto some time soon, the bank will be the ones who own it, but hey we all have to start somewhere.

I can also see myself trading with TriLogics part time and earning some extra money on the side.

Common Mishaps with clients

One of the most common mishaps I find when I am speaking with clients is that when updating TriLogics to a newer version sometimes some clients forget to exit out of TriLogics first.

This can cause TriLogics to not update properly.  When a new version of TriLogics is released, it is best to update before you have downloaded any race data for the day, and don't forget to exit out of TriLogics before running the "Check for Updates" icon from the desktop.

Most Treasured moment

When I first went fishing with my Grandpa Brian (aka Ya-ya) when I was 7 years old,  we had most of our bait stolen by some pesky seagulls, but despite that I caught my first fish.

It was a below size bream so we grabbed the disposable camera and took a picture of what had been the catch of the day so far.

We let the little guy go and kept on fishing, Ya-ya managed to some how catch a big sand crab with his fishing rod so at the end of the day our count was 1 undersize Bream for me, and a very surprised crab for my Grandpa.

Most Proud of

My family's love and strength.

Greatest Achievement

Helping my family through the loss of a loved one.
